After spending 7 long seasons in the AFC North, Nick Chubb will be taking his talents to a Houston team that was in need of significant weapons on offense.
On Monday, the Texans announced on their social media accounts that they agreed to terms with Chubb on a one-year contract with a base salary of $2.5 million, with incentives that can value the contract at $5 million.

It’s no secret that Chubb’s time in Cleveland ended in disappointing fashion after an impressive first few years. Chubb was drafted in 2018 which proved to be one of the strongest draft classes for running backs. From season 2019 through 2022, Chubb registered four 1,000+ rushing yards within that span and scored 40 total rushing touchdowns. Also earning a Pro Bowl selection in each of those seasons. Not just specifically within that span, but in his time with the Browns he was able to solidify himself as the leader on their offense and put himself in the conversation for best running back in the NFL.
In week 2 of the 2023 season, he suffered a devastating knee injury on Monday Night Football in Pittsburgh that effectively ended his season on an extremely low note. A long recovery for sure where Chubb wasn’t sure if he would ever play again.
He was able to return to the field in week 7, but suffered yet another season ending injury in week 15. Only scoring 3 touchdowns and rushing for under 350 yards, it’s appropriate to come to the conclusion that Chubb wasn’t going to be able to return to his original form as their powerhouse running back.
General Manager Andrew Berry said during the offseason that they would operate as if Chubb was not going to be a part of this team moving forward. After drafting two running backs [Ohio State's Quinshon Judkins & Tennessee’s Dylan Sampson] within the first four rounds in the 2025 Draft, Berry claimed that it would be, “increasingly unlikely,” that Chubb would return to the team after bolstering their running back room with fresh faces.
Definitely an emotional end for Chubb, but there is optimism within Houston’s organization that he could return to his original self as a big contributor along with Joe Mixon for the Texans offense in 2025. As long as both can remain healthy, watch out for this team.
