Washinton Commanders Draft Recap by Tyson Woods

Commanders drafted Oregon OT Josh Connerly with the 29th pick.

The 2025 NFL Draft was in April 2025, and the Washington Commanders had 5 draft picks this year, here’s what they did.

The Commanders selected Josh Connerly Jr. with their 1st round pick.  Connerly is an Offensive tackle who played for the Oregon Ducks prior to being drafted.  He only allowed 2 sacks his entire collegiate career.  He allowed no sacks his junior year however, he allowed 5 quarterback pressures.  He was on the 1st team all American team in 2024 and was awarded All Big 10 Honors, He also won the Anthony Munoz award in 2021, which is an award for the best graduating highschooler who plays on the offensive line. Connerly will have the opportunity to develop under 5-time pro bowler Laremy Tunsil.

The Commanders selected Trey Amos with their second-round pick. The former Ole Miss cornerback started his career at Louisiana where he recorded 59 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, 14 pass break ups, and one forced fumble.  He transferred to Alabama for his senior season, where he broke up 5 passes, and contributed a tackle for loss.  He was limited in production because of the depth chart which consisted of Kool aid Mckinstry and Terrion Arnold who both became high draft picks that year.  Amos used his extra year of eligibility to stay in college and play for Ole Miss, where he had the best season of his career.  He recorded 50 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, 13 pass deflections, and 3 interceptions.  He even broke an Ole Miss record for most pass break ups in a single season.

The Commanders used their third-round pick to trade for Marshon Lattimore earlier in the season.  However, in the fourth round the Commanders used their pick to draft Jaylon Lane.  He is a receiver out of Virginia Tech who possesses similar qualities as Deebo Samuel who Washington traded for.  These are qualities such as elite speed and can gain YAC (yards after catch).  The Commanders assistant General Manager Lance Newmark told reporters how they liked his “cool personality” and “unique instinct with the ball in his hands”.  Lane has won multiple awards for his ability to return punt and kick offs.

The Commanders used their 6th round pick to select Kain Medrano.  He is a Linebacker out of UCLA, who had a few impactful plays during his collegiate career such as 3.5 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, 2 interceptions, and even had a touchdown.  Washington’s linebacker coach, Ken Norton Jr., used to coach Medrano when he was the Linebackers Coach at UCLA.

The Commanders final pick came in the seventh round when they selected Jacory Croskey-Merrit, a running back out of Arizona.  He was only allowed to play one game in 2024 due to eligibility issues. In that one game he had 106 rushing yards, averaging 8.2 yards per carry and 1 touchdown. Merrit spent 6 years at the collegiate level before deciding to declare for the NFL draft but DeMatha students like Josiah Jordan think that he possesses the “home run” speed needed in Washington’s backfield necessary to take them to the next level.

Overall, the Commanders filled some positions of need in this draft and hope to continue their success this year after falling short in the NFC championship last year.

What Can We Expect from the Nationals this Season? by Noah Kravitz

Washington Nationals Offseason Review:  Have they done enough? NOAH KRAVITZ What many Nats fans were expecting to be an outstanding offseason, has turned out to be a quiet one at that. Players from the likes of Pete Alonso, Anthony Santander, and Christian Walker have all found their free agency destinations as they were all rumored to be potentially signing with the Nats this offseason.  Although some fans have expressed disappointment over this offseason, there is plenty of reason to be excited about the new talent the Nationals front office has added to the roster this winter.  To start, general manager Mike Rizzo addressed the team’s biggest need by dipping into the first baseman trade market by acquiring Nathaniel Lowe from the Texas Rangers. This marks the second time Lowe has been traded in his career. He was previously dealt from the Rays back in 2020 where he slashed .278/.359/.432 in 4 seasons with Texas, as well as 78 home runs among those years. Lowe will pr...

Where Do the Orioles Stack Up in Their Division and the Rest of the League? by Dylan Lewis

With free agency coming to a close and all 30 MLB teams’ rosters taking shape, fans and analysts can only think about the 2025 opening day of the MLB season. After a historic 2024 season, that saw Shohei Ohtani create the 50/50 club, highly touted pitcher Paul Skenes win NL Rookie of the Year, and a team from Queens comeback from 11 games under .500 to make it 2 games short of going to the World Series, the pressure is on for the expectations of this year’s competition. While many look towards the Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Mets, and New York Yankees because of their offseason additions, the underlying teams in the AL East have made a name for themselves this winter too. My question is, where do the Orioles stack up after an underwhelming, and somewhat disappointing offseason? The Orioles are hoping to follow up a 91-win season in a positive way  Mike Elias has made it clear that he values young talent the most and showed that after not going for top...

Orioles Offseason Recap by Josh Solomon

The Orioles' off-seasons in the past few years have had their ups and downs, and this year was no different. Going into the off-season, the Orioles aimed to add right-handed hitting depth and some quality pitching to compensate for (at the time, most likely) losing their ace, Corbin Burnes.  The most notable offseason news was Corbin Burnes, one of the best pitchers in baseball, leaving for Arizona. A few notable players from the Orioles decided to test free agency, including long-time Oriole John Means, veteran catcher James McCann, and Eloy Jiménez, who after a brief stint with the Orioles, signed a contract with the Rays this off-season. Both Means and McCann have yet to sign with a team as of the time this article was written. To my dismay, the Orioles did lose some key players officially this off-season, including bullpen depth pieces such as Jacob Webb to the Rangers and Danny Coulombe to the Twins. Adding to that, switch-hitting power threat Anthony Santander inked a $92.5 m...
